The end of the program..

Well the program has come to an end and it's been fun! Even though I was on the development team, I've learned a lot. I also enjoyed working on the team- all the people involved were great!
I now look forward to the parties in May and to give away the big prizes.. they are cool! We are excited to give away an iPad2!

I had an ultrasound last week and our little girl is doing well. She is already over 61/2 pounds! So everyone who thinks I'm small.. she's in there growing! lol Getting very excited to meet her now. Only 5 weeks to go!!!

Online Mapping/GIS

Since I wrote this post.. I have done it several times but found it fun to use Community Walk. I enjoy Indian food or food in general, so I thought I'd do a community walk map based on finding food in Saskatoon!
I think GIS and mapping is very useful and will continue to be in the library.
Well next week is the last post for the program! Wow! It's been a lot of work but fun at the same time. It has also gone by fast as well.

On a personal note- had another ultrasound today. My little girl is already over six pounds and has 6 weeks to go! I think she might be big.. or she will come before June 3rd. June 1st is my b-day.. so maybe.. lol

Social Bookmarking & Widgets

I've never really used social bookmarking before but it's very interesting. I will have to add Diigo toolbar to my home computer. I enjoy using widgets- I added the countdown clock to my iGoogle account. I made a countdown to when our baby is arriving! 53 days! Wow!! Coming soon:):) I also played around with Google calendar. I tend to use Outlook calendar for everything but this will be useful for those who can't get access to my calendar if I wanted to share it. Web 2.0 is very social indeed! :)

Social Networking and Twitter

I've been on facebook for a few years now and still use it. I'm not on it all day, like some, but maybe check it once a day to see what my friends/family are doing or if people email me. I use facebook for emailing and to contact friends/family that live in other parts of the world or to re-connect with people I haven't talked to in years. I don't play any games or use farmville. My husband used farmville for a while but then even he got tired of it because you have to check it all the time. I haven't watched the movie "The Social Network" yet, but I've heard it's good. I heard after watching it, you might not want to support Facebook! lol I created a Twitter account a few years ago. I was watching Ellen on tv and everyone was "following" her so I did.. but hardly ever used it. I don't really care or want to know what people are doing every second of the day. Also I don't really want to tell people (or find my life that exciting) what I'm doing every second of the day. I can see if I was in politics or had a following.. maybe but it's not for me. I like having my own space and don't feel the need to share my whole life. Some people love it though and that is great! :)

Flickr

I haven't used Flickr myself to upload photos. I don't generally take photos very often. I hate photos of myself (I am camera shy) but I know with having a baby we will be taking a lot of photos. We bought a video camera/camera not too long ago for the occasion. I was the 3rd child out of four and there are VERY few photos of me when I was little. Hopefully I will be able to take a lot of her so she won't say the same thing in 20 years! lol This is a photo I took from Flickr from Laurel. I don't know who Laurel is but I love her little kitties. The grey one looks like my cat Rocky. Also my husband has two birds and my cat loves to watch them. I did, however, provide the link. SOOO... after asking Tasha why my picture wasn't loading- she realized that Laurel has not given permission to do so. Sad:( I guess she wants to keep her kitty pictures off other people's pages. Anyway use the URL to check out the picture- it is cute! :)

So since I couldn't add that picture.. I added another cute kitty picture:) It's okay it's a Halloween picture! It's cute:)

Wikis!

I just added my thoughts to the 23 things Wiki but I will repeat them here. I have used Wikis for a while now. I have been working with many groups (like HSL for Medical Informatics) that use Wikis to create contnet so that everyone can see and manage. When you aren't in the same location- Wikis work well. There is a bit of a learning curve but once you get the hang of using them-easy to use.

Podcasts

I haven't really used podcasts very often but they are fun. I've never made one before.. maybe in the future:) I added a podcast to my Google Reader page. It was pretty easy to do. I added the Soup. It is an entertainment show and really funny. The host makes fun shows on tv and pop culture. It is on Friday nights on the E network. YouTube

So I've been very behind in 23 things. It's been busy at work with teaching and CV updates, etc. So now I can catch up! I love YouTube.. what can I say. I use it a lot. I am embedding the Library Ninja video. I saw this years ago (and others) and they made me laugh. I used to take Karate for a while.. so I was a librarian/ninja myself.. but I've never done this in the library to anyone.. I think I'm usually the one the student's are telling to be quiet here at Vet! lol I tried watching the Librarians do Gaga.. mm... I hate to say it but I was slightly embarassed to be a libraian after that.. sorry people at that Library school. Are you trying to make Librarians look like the ultimate geeks? Well I know I have geek in there.. but there is a limit! lol :) Oh BTW Baby girl is 7 months now!!

Google Docs, Spreadsheets, Prezi, oh my!

Well I was away for a week.. it wasn't an exciting holiday but I was able to get rid of a lot of junk out of my place and make room for our baby girl (countdown- less than 3 months now!).
We bought a crib and a few pink items.. lol

So I caught up on Google Docs, Spreadsheets, and Prezi. I've used Google Docs before working on various projects with other librarians and it's very handy. I haven't used spreadsheets very often but find it works really well. Prezi was really fun to play with. I've enjoyed looking at people's Prezi ideas. It's another way to view a presentation instead of PowerPoint. Some of the HS librarians and I were looking how we could use the Prezi app on our IPads.. we will have to experiment with it.

Well it's been quiet the past few days as the rest of the staff are gone to LLDP 4. They are back tomorrow:)

Our little girl...5 months

Too much sugar! lol

Okay, well maybe you can never have too much sugar.. but maybe I did last night. So when I got home, there were flowers and a card on the table from Roberto. He also made me a dessert fruit platter. It was so nice. I didn't get him anything! lol.. but then decided to order him Chinese food. He feels V-day is for girls anyway:)
Getting excited to go on vacation for a week- starting Monday. We aren't going anywhere though.. my whole family is going to Florida to visit Mickey Mouse but my mom thought I wouldn't want to go because I'm pregnant and couldn't go on any rides.. mm.. well I could still escape the -50 weather and chat with Mickey and Minnie.. oh well next time. But it's a good thing. I need to save money for our little girl. Also on my week off, I will be fixing up our spare room and turning it into a nursery:) This will be fun but I'm no Martha Stewart. So if anyone has any suggetions- let me know!!!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Happy V-day everyone! Last night my husband made me dinner. It was really good! It was chicken with homemade salsa (with mangos). We also had some nice fake wine. He is the best! Spanish guys can cook and are romantic! lol
The day wasn't all good though.. one of our aquatic frogs somehow jumped out of his tank. We couldn't find him for a few hours and when we did, he was gone. They don't last long outside of water. I'm still not sure if my cat found him first and played with him.. hopefully not! Poor Roberto... he thought if he put the frog in water for a while, he would bounce back (dry out!).. mm.. didn't work- but he tried.

PS: I am now 24 weeks and 3 days or 5.5 months along!! Sleeping is already so fun lately! Can't wait until I'm further along. Went to the doctor on Friday and the ultrasound looks great!! :)

RSS feeds

The week I created started on Monday.. Valentine's Day!!!
It is about RSS feeds. I teach RSS feeds to Medical students in Medical Informatics. They save you time and are fun to use. We'll see what people think on Monday!

Hi. I'm on the 23 things team and very excited that it has started. I have learned a lot- so I hope everyone will!
I am a librarian at the Veterinary Medicine College and expecting a little girl in June. It will be my first baby, so I'm excited yet scared to death! lol
